10 & U Format Explained

The JTT League went through an extensive learning process when starting the new 60' QS format division using low compression.  This 'learning process' was really for the parents who were not familiar with this new format. Please understand that the League is run by USPTA tennis teaching professionals, and some of the most experienced pros in tennis. it is understandable that some parents may think that ustilizing a shorter court with balls that don't bounce quite so high, is not 'real tennis'. However, this format has been used in Europe for at least the past two decades, and we all know where European tour pros stand in the ATP?WTA world rankings compared to most of their U.S. counterparts. Our suggestion is for parents to put aside their pre-conceived notions about QS tennis for a moment, and click on some of the following links, that explain and show exactly what 10&Under QS tennis is all about. We have personally observed juniors with just a few months of tennis experience, hitting forehand and backhand topspin strokes with rallies of 40 plus shots. This is certainly a case of 'you need to see to believe'.

Tom's Corner
The USPTA Jr Team Tennis League emphasizes that juniors have the very best tennis experience they can possibly get in a competitive, but FUN environment. The League also believes strongly that tennis is the perfect vehicle to learn social skills, which is why the sportsmanship awards are so highly sought after. We also believe that where feasible, mixed gender matches are acceptable, providing that the players are of approximate skill levels. One last point on providing the appropriate competitive environment, we ask parents to give serious consideration to whether their child is in the appropriate USTA tournament. We hear so many cases of juniors playing in 'locals' or even 'Super Series', where often they are so far out of their depth, even to the extent that it can harm their love of tennis. We do support USTA tournaments, but always ask your Pro as to the tournament suitability for your child's skill level....
