USTA Spring Sectionals

Congratulations to the Palm Beach Panthers, a team of USPTA JTT players who competed in the USTA Sectionals in Altamonte Springs, April 24/25. Even though they are 15 year olds playing in the tough 18 & Under Intermediate division, they came within a whisker of winning the championship. They were just 1 point off the lead (out of a possible 200 points) at the end of the day. Palm Beach Panthers, doing the 'Panther Growl'  above are Nathalie Voit, Susie Bernet, Helen Bernal, Erin Bernet, Jacquie (coach), Billy Earnhart, Maxx Esteves, and David Kanner.

USPTA sponsors Jr Team Tennis League

The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and Grassroots Tennis LLC  have agreed on a sponsoring partnership for the newly named USPTA Jr Team Tennis League (formerly Team Tennis USA). Our joint objective is to provide a quality and integrated league with a great competitive and sportsmanship spirit across all age ranges. The USPTA JTT league is by far, the largest and most competitive league in Palm Beach County with team opportunities from 7 to 17, in Standard, Intermediate and Advanced (high school/tournament).The USPTA is the oldest and largest professional tennis organization in the world, and with its 2,000+ members in Florida, we believe that with our focus on the league being run by the professionals, it provides the very best in tennis coaching for juniors. This sponsoring agreement will give an immediate greater visibility to the League, and increase the opportunity of our obtaining additional sponsors to benefit the juniors.

The news has been very well received by area tennis teaching professionals, with the result that many new additional teams will be joining ongoing seasons of USPTA Jr Team Tennis.

Tom's Corner
Florida is truly blessed with awesome weather and a wide variety of sports for children to partipate. It can be a daunting task for parents in helping their kids to decide what sports to play. The juniors have to contend with peers, parent, and school pressure in making decisions. A good decision-making process for parents, is to determine what sport their children really enjoy without any external pressures. Other considerations may be to look at what sports are going to provide a life long benefit in terms of social skills. There are really just the two main sports of tennis and golf that adults can play in any social environment and across the skill spectrum. The suggestion then, is for your child to focus on just 2 or 3 sports, and then as they get older reduce this down to 1 or 2 to enable them to hone their skills to possibly get a fast (& less expensive) track into college. Tennis, is after all, known as the 'sport for life'. ...
